Cardiology

Our cardiology department assesses, diagnoses and follows up conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels. Patients who come to us with chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, swollen ankles or high blood pressure are first evaluated with a detailed history and physical examination, and any tests needed are planned together with the doctor.

When should you see a cardiologist?

• Chest pain or pressure during exertion or at rest
• Palpitations, a feeling of irregular heartbeat, fainting or feeling faint
• Breathlessness that gets worse on stairs or when lying down
• High blood pressure, high cholesterol or a family history of early heart disease
• Regular check-ups after heart surgery or a cardiac procedure

Diagnostic services

• Electrocardiography (ECG) and 24-hour Holter rhythm monitoring
• Echocardiography (heart ultrasound)
• Exercise stress testing and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
• Coronary CT angiography and angiography when your doctor considers them necessary

How the process works

1. Consultation: Your symptoms, medication and previous test results are reviewed together.
2. Test plan: Only the tests you need are requested; most can be completed on the same day.
3. Results discussion: Findings are explained in plain language and follow-up and treatment options are discussed with you.
4. Regular follow-up: For long-term heart conditions, check-up intervals are planned with your doctor.

Emergencies: If you have sudden chest pain that does not go away, cold sweats or loss of consciousness, call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department without waiting for an appointment.
