Ophthalmology
Vision checks, eye pressure and cataract assessment, squint in children and eye health screening.
Our ophthalmology department assesses the eye health of patients of all ages and follows up eye conditions. Complaints such as blurred vision, red, burning or gritty eyes, flashes of light and shadows in the field of vision are assessed with a detailed eye examination. Patients with long-term conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure are advised to have regular eye check-ups.

Before your examination
- Drops that widen the pupils may be used for the fundus examination; as your vision may be blurred and sensitive to light for a few hours, you are advised not to drive.
- If you wear contact lenses, remove them before the visit as advised by your doctor.
- Bring your glasses and any eye drops you use.
How often should you have a check?
Adults without vision problems are advised to have an eye examination every few years after the age of 40, and more often if they have diabetes or a family history of glaucoma. Your doctor will advise on the right interval.
In case of sudden loss of vision, severe eye pain or an eye injury, go to the emergency department without waiting for an appointment.
The information on this page is for general guidance only; diagnosis and treatment decisions are made by your doctor after an examination.
